Bokaro: Under the leadership of Priya Ranjan, Designated DIC, Bokaro Steel Plant has successfully carried out its first-ever chequered plate rolling, marking a major milestone in its production journey. In the trial run, 12 chequered plate coils with widths ranging from 1,250 mm to 1,500 mm and thickness between 5 mm and 6 mm were rolled entirely through in-house facilities.
The national demand for chequered plates is estimated at around 3.6 lakh tonnes annually. With the start of commercial production, the plant is targeting an additional 30,000 tonnes per month, along with a higher net realisation of nearly ₹1,500 per tonne over HR coils.
To support full-scale production, upgrades related to adamite rolls, L1–L2 automation systems and necessary ISO certifications are underway and are expected to be completed by January 2026. Executive Director (Operations) Anoop Kumar Dutt and Chief General Manager (HSM) P. K. Varma also played key roles in the successful execution. Senior management has praised the collective efforts of the entire team.
