Ranchi: Protesting against the long-standing delay in examination results,
the failure to conduct the PhD Entrance Examination 2024,the shelving of student union elections, and illegal fee collection, the All India Students’ Association (AISA) led a gherao of the Ranchi University administrative building. The protesting students accused the university administration of imposing anti-student policies and jeopardizing students’ futures.
Addressing the gathering during the protest AISA Jharkhand State President Comrade Vibha Pushpa Deep stated that the academic session at Ranchi University has become completely irregular. Undergraduate and postgraduate examination results are being withheld for months, adversely affecting students’ higher education prospects and employment opportunities. She said that the non-conduct of the PhD Entrance Examination 2024 is a blatant mockery of the future of research scholars. Attempts are being made to undermine the university’s autonomy by imposing UGC CSIR-NET and GATE, thereby pushing local students out of research, which AISA will not accept under any circumstances.
AISA Ranchi District Secretary Sanjana Mehta highlighted serious administrative lapses and said that the law degree offered by the university has been declared invalid by the Bar Council of India, as legal education must be conducted through a university department, school, or college, whereas here it is being run in the name of an “institute.” She further stated that while such courses are categorized as self-financed elsewhere, they have been
placed under vocational courses at Ranchi University, reflecting gross negligence and a conspiracy that endangers students’ futures. She also alleged that students are deliberately being failed in semester examinations to facilitate excessive fee collection. “This is not education, but a policy of repression,” she said, adding that the suppression of student union elections is an attempt to silence students’ democratic voices. She demanded the immediate restoration of student union elections.
AISA Ranchi District President Vijay Kumar said that under the pretext of the National Education Policy 2020, education is being rapidly privatized, weakening quality and employment-oriented education. Students are burdened with exorbitant and unnecessary fees, while basic facilities remain grossly inadequate. He warned that if the administration fails to take prompt corrective action, the movement will be intensified.
During the protest, AISA submitted a memorandum addressed to the Vice-Chancellor to the Registrar, demanding
the timely declaration of examination results, regularization of the academic session, immediate conduct of the PhD Entrance Examination 2024, restorationof student union elections, provision of all necessary facilities for sportspersons, and an immediate halt to illegal fee collection.
The gherao witnessed the presence of AISA members including Sonali Kevat, Chhuturam Mahto, Satya Prakash, Nikhil Raj, DSPMU President Shaleen Kumar, Sunil Soren, Wasim Ansari, Kajal, Nikita, Sonu, Abhishek, Rajeev, Utsav, along with
a large number of students.
