Ranchi ::A crucial meeting of the Indian Institute of Coal Management (IICM) Workers’ Union was held under the chairmanship of Mr. Ajay Rai, the union president. The meeting focused on several pressing issues concerning the institute’s employees.
The primary point of discussion was the two-month short-term tender, under which employees had completed their assigned work, yet payment for the same has not been made. Members present at the meeting expressed deep resentment over this injustice and termed it a gross violation of workers’ rights.
It was further highlighted that despite clear directives from the Supreme Court, the IICM management has not taken any concrete steps towards the regularization (permanent appointment) of its employees. This inaction, the members said, not only reflects disregard for judicial orders but has also created widespread dissatisfaction and a sense of insecurity among the staff.
Union president Ajay Rai stated, “The attitude of the IICM management has become increasingly autocratic and arbitrary. Far from regularization, even the coal wage of the workers has not been released yet, which is extremely unfortunate and condemnable.” He added, “The employees have always worked with sincerity and dedication, yet the management continues to ignore their hard work and rights. If no concrete action is taken soon, the union will chalk out a plan for a massive agitation.”
The members present unanimously resolved that if pending payments, coal wages, and the regularization process are not initiated immediately, the union will escalate the matter to higher authorities and, if necessary, approach the Labour Department and the Court.
The union made it clear that the exploitation of employees will no longer be tolerated. Warning the management, the members said that if prompt action is not taken in favor of the workers, the union will be compelled to launch a phase-wise agitation.
Several senior office-bearers and members attended the meeting, including Manoj Kumar Singh, Ramesh Sahu, Islam Khan, Veer Bahadur Singh, Alok Jha, Akshay Behera, Preet Yadav, Uttam Kumar, Makdali Kujur, Rajesh Tirkey, Madina Khatun, Jyoti Khalkho, Nirmala Kispotta, Shashi Devi, Anita Tigga, Anupama Sahu, Poonam Tirkey, Rahil Kujur, Lakhi Linda, and Shila Bando, among others.
In conclusion, the meeting unanimously resolved that the IICM Workers’ Union will continue its struggle until justice is achieved and the rights and dignity of the workers are fully secured.
