Shock to Grand Alliance: JMM to Contest Bihar Elections Alone

Ranchi:  In a major political development ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has announced its decision to part ways with the Grand Alliance. The party has declared that it will contest the upcoming elections independently and will not be a part of any alliance.

Announcing the decision at a press conference held at the party headquarters in Ranchi on Friday, JMM General Secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said that the party will field its candidates from six assembly constituencies — Chakai, Dhamdaha, Katoria, Pirpainti, Manihari, and Jamui. All these seats will go to polls in the second phase of the election.

Supriyo Bhattacharya stated,

“Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is a party born out of people’s movements. Our politics is rooted in struggle, self-respect, and public interest. In Bihar, we will enter the electoral arena with our ideology and the people’s faith.”

He further informed that the state unit of the party held detailed discussions and unanimously decided to contest the elections separately. According to Bhattacharya, while JMM’s presence in Bihar is currently limited, its influence among tribal, Dalit, and backward communities is steadily growing.

Political analysts view JMM’s move as a setback for the Grand Alliance, especially in constituencies where the party has a traditional support base. On the other hand, JMM considers this step an important move towards expanding its organizational base and strengthening its independent political identity.

Bhattacharya added that the party will soon announce its list of candidates and outline its campaign strategy.

“We aim to bring the politics of people’s struggles and social justice, as practiced in Jharkhand, to Bihar as well,” he said.

Observers believe that JMM’s decision could reshape political equations in Bihar and may lead to triangular contests in several constituencies.
