Ranchi: Artists in Jharkhand have issued a warning to the state government, stating that if the Jharkhand Film Policy is not amended and a provision to screen regional language films in all cinemas is not implemented, they will soon launch a protest. This decision was taken at a meeting of the Jharkhand Artists’ Protest Committee today.
During the meeting, the artists emphasized that immediate steps are necessary to protect the film industry and the rights of local artists in the state. They clearly demanded that regional language films of Jharkhand be made mandatory in all cinemas across the state. The artists believe that without this provision, local cinema and artists will not receive proper recognition and support.
The committee also decided that if the government fails to take concrete action within fifteen days, they will stage a sit-in outside the Jharkhand Film Development Corporation (JFDCL). In addition, they plan to organize large-scale protests on the streets to demand their rights.
The artists stressed that promoting local films will not only safeguard the interests of the artists but also help Jharkhand’s culture and local art gain recognition at the national and international level. They urged the government to provide economic and technical support along with the policy amendments, so that local film production is encouraged and new talent gets opportunities.
The committee clarified that their protest will solely support their demands and will remain peaceful. They added that if the government listens to their concerns and takes action, the protest could be averted. They emphasized that timely and concrete efforts by the government are essential to promote Jharkhand’s film industry.
The important meeting was attended by several prominent artists, including Kajal, Mundu, Vinod Mahli, Ranju Minz, Anmol Khalkho, Rishi Kesh Lal, Vinod Jaiswal, Devpujan Thakur, Belal Ansari, Sonu Uraon, among others.
