Ranchi:The Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) has strongly condemned the arrest of Zila Parishad member Madhavchandra Kunkul and several other local leaders in West Singhbhum, calling it an attempt to suppress the people’s movement against frequent accidents on the mineral transport route.
The party stated that even after one month, the family of the girl who lost her life in a road accident at Singhpokharia (West Singhbhum) has not received any compensation. CPI(ML) alleged that instead of addressing public concerns, the administration resorted to repression against those demanding justice and road safety.
State Secretary Manoj Bhakt said that iron ore trucks are often allowed to operate without proper verification of their legality or the competence of their drivers, leading to frequent accidents. “It is the responsibility of the administration to identify the vehicle involved in the accident and to install surveillance cameras at sensitive points to prevent such incidents in the future,” he said, adding that such disorder may be part of a deliberate conspiracy to facilitate illegal transportation.
The CPI(ML) State Committee further asserted that organizing democratic protests is a fundamental right of the people, and any attempt to crush it through state repression is an attack on democracy itself.
“Madhavchandra Kunkul is a popular leader of Singhbhum. Arresting him and others will not silence the voice of the people,” the party said, urging the state government to immediately stop police repression in the district and release all detained leaders without delay.
