Contaminated Blood Transfusion Case in Thalassemia Patient — Minister Says, “I Will Personally Take Responsibility”

Jharkhand Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari conducts surprise inspection at Chaibasa Sadar Hospital; administration in panic after negligence exposed

Ranchi: Jharkhand Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari’s sudden visit to Chaibasa Sadar Hospital created panic among hospital authorities on Thursday. The minister conducted an in-depth inspection for nearly three hours, thoroughly reviewing all wards, laboratories, and patient care arrangements.

During the inspection, a case of serious medical negligence came to light when the report of a thalassemia patient showed HIV positive results. Taking the matter seriously, Dr. Ansari ordered immediate action and handed over a cheque of ₹2 lakh as financial assistance to the affected family.

According to preliminary information, in the year 2023–24, some children reportedly received infected plasma transfusions. Blood was collected from 259 donors, out of which 44 samples were re-examined, and four donors were found to be HIV positive. The minister described the incident as “extremely serious” and confirmed that a detailed inquiry is underway. He urged people to refrain

from spreading rumors or making political statements until the investigation report is complete.

Dr. Ansari stated, “If the investigation proves anyone’s negligence, I will personally take full responsibility for the affected family and ensure strict action against those found guilty.”

He further added, “The Kolhan region has produced four former chief ministers, yet noneof them ever paid attention to the healthcare system. Now that shortcomings are being exposed, they have no moral right to comment.”

Admitting the lapse, the minister said, “A mistake has happened, I accept it. Immediate action has been taken, and based on the inquiry report, stronger measures will follow.”

Taking a swipe at the BJP, Dr. Ansari remarked, “The BJP is trying to politicize this sensitive issue for its own gain. For twenty years, they made a mockery of the state’s healthcare system. Today, the health department is on full alert mode, and people are experiencing real improvement in medical services.”

In conclusion, he appealed to the public, saying, “I am working tirelessly to improve healthcare services across the state. I request the people to cooperate and avoid unnecessary statements.”

Senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Civil Surgeon, and health department experts, were also present during the inspection.
