Bokaro, October 29, 2025:
Reaffirming its role as a hub of innovation and national growth, Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), a unit of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has developed a special 28MnB5 grade Manganese-Boron (Mn-B) steel for agricultural machinery and wear-resistant applications.
This first-of-its-kind innovation within SAIL marks a major step toward Atmanirbhar Bharat, offering an indigenous substitute for imported materials used in farm and earth-moving equipment.
“This development reflects Bokaro Steel’s commitment to strengthening rural India through technology and quality,” said a senior BSL official.
The new steel combines high strength, hardness, and wear resistance, making it ideal for ploughshares, cultivator blades, and digger tools. Since its launch, BSL has supplied over 60,000 tonnes, with production projected to reach 80,000 tonnes annually.
Through such innovations, Bokaro Steel continues to power India’s industrial and agricultural self-reliance, living up to its legacy as the nation’s steel backbone.
