SAIL Strengthens Northeast Rail Connectivity with Steel Supply for Bairabi–Sairang Project

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a leading Maharatna steel producer in the public sector, has supplied nearly 15,000 metric tonnes of high-quality steel for the 51-km-long Bairabi–Sairang railway project in Mizoram. The landmark infrastructure project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13, 2025.

For the project, SAIL’s Bhilai Steel Plant supplied around 10,000 metric tonnes of superior grade R-260 prime rails, while its plants at Bokaro, Rourkela, Bhilai, Durgapur and Burnpur delivered about 5,000 metric tonnes of plates, TMT bars and structural steel.

The Bairabi–Sairang line is a vital link to enhance inter-regional connectivity in the Northeast, underlining India’s commitment to inclusive development. SAIL’s contribution once again reaffirms its role as a trusted partner in nation-building by ensuring strength and quality for critical infrastructure.

The company has a proven track record of supporting iconic national projects such as the Chenab Railway Bridge, Jiribam–Tupul–Imphal Broad Gauge Project, Atal Tunnel, Bandra–Worli Sea Link, Dhola Sadiya Bridge and Bogibeel Bridge, besides playing a key role in steel supply for power, hydropower, and border connectivity projects across the country.
