Ranchi, September 3 – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has strongly condemned what it calls an act of intimidation by BJP MLA C.P. Singh against Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) during a recent official meeting. The party criticized the MLA’s behavior, calling it undemocratic and inappropriate for someone holding public office.
In a statement issued by CPI(M) Jharkhand State Secretary Prakash Viplav, the party said the incident reflects not only a violation of democratic etiquette but also raises serious concerns about the conduct and responsibility of elected representatives.
“This kind of behavior shows deep frustration and insecurity,” the statement said. “It is the duty of every public representative to engage with administrative officials in a cooperative and respectful manner, especially when dealing with public issues. Publicly demoralizing or insulting an officer during an official forum is detrimental to democratic traditions and cannot be accepted.”
The CPI(M) emphasized that India’s constitutional framework already provides formal mechanisms for addressing grievances against officials. These include:
Filing official complaints with higher authorities if there are concerns about the functioning of an officer;
Raising the issue through appropriate procedures in the State Government or Legislative Assembly.
“Resorting to direct bullying or attempts to humiliate officers in public meetings is a sign of political immaturity and haste,” the party noted.
The CPI(M) called upon the Jharkhand government to take serious note of the incident and ensure that such tendencies are curbed. The party stressed the importance of allowing administrative officers to work freely and fairly, without fear or pressure from political figures.
“When officials are threatened or pressured, it undermines the integrity of governance and conveys a damaging message to the public—that elected leaders are more interested in power play than in resolving people’s problems,” the statement concluded.
