Minister Hafizul Hasan Assures Discussion With CM on Issues of Thalassemia Patients





Ranchi: On the eve of World Thalassemia Day, a state-level Thalassemia Conference-2026 titled “Thank You Uncle” was organized at Audrey House in Ranchi under the joint aegis of “Lahoo Bolega” Blood Donation Organization and Jharkhand Thalassemia Patients Association. The day-long event focused on the challenges faced by thalassemia and sickle cell anemia patients, while also providing a platform for showcasing their talents.



The conference was conducted in three sessions. The first academic session featured a discussion on the “Status of Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anemia in Jharkhand.” The second session highlighted the talents of affected children through paintings based on human emotions, plays depicting personal struggles, and recognition of academic achievements. The final session witnessed a motivational cultural evening presented by professional musicians from Jharkhand and West Bengal.



Jharkhand Minister Hafizul Hasan attended the programme as the chief guest. Appreciating the efforts of the organizers, he said the state government is serious about addressing the concerns of thalassemia patients. He assured that the issues raised during the conference would be discussed with Chief Minister Hemant Soren for proper resolution.




Kanke MLA Suresh Baitha, who attended as a special guest, said he had earlier raised the issue of thalassemia patients in the Assembly and would continue to pursue the matter with the government.




Dr. Bimlesh Singh, president of the state association of government doctors and deputy superintendent of Sadar Hospital, Ranchi, elaborated on the background of World Thalassemia Day, the present condition of patients, and government welfare schemes. He also answered queries raised by patients and their family members.



The programme was chaired by blood donor activist Nadeem Khan, while Sujata Kumari and Sanjay Toppo jointly conducted the event. Sakshi Singh and Seema Devi introduced the subject, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Pandit Ajit Mishra.




During the event, the 39-member committee of the Jharkhand State Thalassemia Patients Association was reconstituted and a nine-point resolution was passed. Five students suffering from thalassemia and sickle cell anemia were felicitated for securing first division in matriculation examinations and appearing in the NEET examination. Participants of drama and painting competitions were also honoured.




Discussions during the conference covered awareness, prevention, scholarships, HLA tests, free medicines, bone marrow transplant facilities, HPLC testing, Thalassemia Cards, UDID Cards, pension schemes and permanent railway passes for patients.




Several social workers, blood donors, patients, family members and musicians, including Nadeem Khan, Sanjay Toppo, Seema Devi, Sangeeta Devi, Sanjay Mahto, Devki Devi, Vimla Kachhap, Surendra Munda, Sonam Kumari, Nigar Sultan, Shabbir Hussain, Akram Rashid, Engineer Shah Nawaz Abbas, Mojahid and Buland Akhtar, were present at the programme.
