Ranchi: Employees and pensioners staged a protest at Shaheed Chowk here on Thursday, demanding the immediate release of the Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) installment due from January 1. The demonstration was held following a nationwide call by the Central Government Employees Federation, NCCPA, and AIPRPA, with similar protests reported from different parts of the country.
The protesters said that the Centre usually announces the DA/DR hike in March every year. However, the delay this year has triggered resentment among employees and pensioners. They urged the government to release the pending installment without further delay.
The demonstrators also raised the issue of the 18-month DA/DR arrears withheld during the COVID-19 period, alleging that the dues are yet to be cleared.
Among those present at the protest were K.D. Rai ‘Vyathit’, Triloki Nath Sahu, Sukhdev Ram, Rajendra Mahto, Devcharan Sahu, Noor Mohammad, Bachnu Sahu, Noor Alam, Madheshwar, Gorai and others.
