Ranchi/Delhi: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has strongly opposed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to Israel. In a statement issued here, the party said the visit comes at a time when the situation in Gaza remains grave due to ongoing Israeli military operations.
According to the party, despite reports of a ceasefire, attacks continue in Gaza, severely affecting Palestinian civilians. It also alleged that in the occupied West Bank, assaults on Palestinians have intensified and there has been an increase in illegal settlement activities.
The CPI(M) stated that the Prime Minister’s visit signals a departure from India’s traditional support for the Palestinian cause and may be perceived as political endorsement of the current Israeli government. The party further claimed that the declared objective of the visit is to deepen strategic, military and economic ties with Israel.
The statement added that the proposed visit is taking place at a sensitive time when tensions in West Asia remain high and the regional situation is volatile. The CPI(M) has urged the Central government to reconsider the visit.
