Bokaro should be known not only for its steel legacy but also as a strong centre of education, culture and literature, Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha said while inaugurating the Shabd Sarita Mahotsav here today.

The two-day festival was inaugurated at Shibu Soren Memorial Bhawan (Town Hall), highlighting Bokaro’s growing stature as an educational hub. The Deputy Commissioner said the city’s agricultural roots, tribal heritage and creative talent, especially among children and youth, give it a unique and vibrant identity.

Emphasising the importance of reading, he said books play a vital role in mental and intellectual development, adding that regular reading turns learning into a source of enjoyment. He encouraged youth and teachers to keep books as a daily habit, sharing that he personally carries a book despite a busy schedule.

The Deputy Commissioner also urged people to share their knowledge and emotions through writing, art or other creative forms, and appealed to citizens to participate in the festival and read at least one book.

Bokaro MLA Shweta Singh described books as sincere and lasting companions, urging students to develop a reading habit to build values and perspective.

Deputy Development Commissioner Shatabdi Majumdar said the festival is a vibrant platform combining literature, culture, regional art and dialogue.

The inauguration was attended by senior district officials, writers, educators, students and literature enthusiasts. With participation from authors and publishers across the country, Shabd Sarita Mahotsav has turned Bokaro into a lively centre of learning and cultural exchange.
