Ranchi: On 08 January 2026, a five-member delegation from the Ranchi Press Club, led by its President Shambhu Nath Chaudhary, met the Hon’ble Governor of Jharkhand, Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar, at Raj Bhavan. During the meeting, the delegation drew the Governor’s attention to various pressing issues concerning journalists and submitted a detailed memorandum outlining their welfare proposals.
The memorandum primarily highlighted the following points:
∆ Proposal for a pension scheme for retired journalists, aimed at providing financial security to senior journalists who have contributed long years of service.
∆ Proposal for the development of residential colonies for journalists in Ranchi and other major cities of the state.
∆ Request for journalists’ health insurance and early enactment of a Journalist Safety Law, to ensure they can perform their duties fearlessly.
∆ Proposal for a ‘Dialogue’ program at Ranchi Press Club, allowing direct interaction between the Governor and journalists, to which the Governor agreed to organize in the near future.
Governor Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar listened to the delegation attentively and assured that the government would coordinate on these important issues concerning journalists’ welfare and take appropriate measures. He emphasized the crucial role of journalists as the fourth pillar of democracy and highlighted that resolving their issues should be given priority.
The delegation included Vice President Bipin Upadhyay, Secretary Abhishek Sinha, Joint Secretary Chandan Bhattacharya, and Executive Committee Member Pratima Kumari of the Ranchi Press Club.
