Ranchi:: On the occasion of the 21st martyrdom anniversary of Jharkhand’s popular leader Comrade Mahendra Singh, a pledge meeting was organized at Mahendra Singh Bhawan in Ranchi. The meeting was conducted by CPI (ML) State Committee member R. N. Singh. The program began with a moment of silence in memory of Comrade Mahendra Singh.
Addressing the gathering, R. N. Singh said that Comrade Mahendra Singh was a leader fully devoted to the people. He was a powerful voice for the common people of Jharkhand, migrant workers, students, youth, women, and farmers. His fearless struggle against corrupt politicians and ruling forces became the reason for his martyrdom.
Social activist Dayamani Barla said that Mahendra Singh had transformed the struggle for water, forests, and land into a mass movement. Carrying forward his ideas, she said, is the true tribute to him.
Shuvendu Sen stated that efforts to weaken democracy have intensified, but these will be resisted through the unity of the people.
Manju Devi said that the voices of women, workers, and the poor are being suppressed. Mahendra Singh taught us that questioning those in power is our democratic right.
Mahavir Munda said that corporate encroachment on Adivasi land is increasing. This is not merely a fight for land, but a fight for existence.
Aiti Tirkey said that the government is depriving the poor of their rightful entitlements, which will not be tolerated. Shanti Sen added that CPI (ML) will continue its struggle against injustice from the streets to the legislature.
Mewa Lakra said that Adivasis and minorities are being deliberately targeted, which poses a serious threat to democracy. Jagannath Oraon said that if the people do not unite, the situation will worsen further. He expressed serious concern over the growing corporate takeover of land, water, and forests during the Hemant government’s tenure, particularly highlighting the expansion of the Adani Group. The speakers resolved to intensify the movement demanding the repeal of the Land Bank Act.
Anant Prasad Gupta said that the Land Bank Act is anti-poor and anti-Adivasi and will not be allowed to be implemented at any cost.
Sudam Khalkho said that Mahendra Singh had dreamed of a just Jharkhand, and they will continue the struggle to realize that dream.
Strong resentment was also expressed over recent incidents such as the mob lynching of Pappu Ansari in Godda and the murder of Soma Munda. The speakers said that the role of the administration is under suspicion and the law-and-order situation in the state is alarming.
Jayaprakash Chaudhary, Bhim Sahu, Mohan Dutt, and Nandita Bhattacharya also addressed the gathering. They said that fascist forces are capturing various constitutional institutions in the country. From the right to vote to the right to live and earn a livelihood, people’s rights are being systematically snatched away. Through the weakening of MGNREGA, policies like SIR, and the implementation of four labour codes, workers’ rights are under attack, forcing rural laborers to migrate out of compulsion.
The program was attended by a large number of party workers and supporters, including Geeta Tirkey, Sushma Devi, Sapna Gadi, Sushma Gadi, Ajit Lakra, Sohel Ansari, Rekha Devi, and Ramesh Kumar.
