Questions Raised Over the Conduct of the Judiciary and Government, Women Protest in Ranchi

Ranchi:On December 29, 2025, several women’s organizations, student groups, and social activists held a protest at Albert Ekka Chowk against the granting of bail to BJP’s former विधायक and Unnao rape convict Kuldeep Singh Sengar, and against attempts to protect the accused in the Ankita Bhandari case of Uttarakhand. A large number of women participated in the demonstration, raising serious questions about the conduct of the government and the judiciary.

Prominent participants in the protest included Elina Horo, Nandita Bhattacharya, Salami Kachhap, Aloka Kujur, Cecilia Lakra, Lina Padam, Kanak, Usha, Sangeeta, Shanti Soren, Sushasani Mehli, Shanti Sen, Tom Kavla, Shailesh, Naseem, Taramani Sahu, Aiti Tirkey, Sapna Gari, Sushma Gari, Sumi Oraon, Geeta Tirkey, Anshu Gari, Mewa Lakra, Vijay, Nikhil, Satyaprakash, Alok Kujur, Kanchan Oraon, Rose Madhu Ekka, Sushila Tigga, Sonali Kevat, Priyanka, Akanksha, and many others. The protesters raised slogans and demanded strict punishment for the culprits.

The women stated that the Delhi High Court’s decision to grant bail to Kuldeep Sengar has caused deep distress to women across the country and has severely weakened public faith in the justice system. They alleged that since the BJP came to power, incidents of violence, sexual exploitation, and rape against women have increased significantly. They further condemned the premature release of rapists, their public felicitation, brutal and violent treatment of survivors, and the planned killing of victims’ family members and legal representatives.

The protesters accused the BJP of consistently providing protection to criminals while forcing daughters and women to fight alone for justice, often at the cost of their lives. They cited examples such as Ram Rahim, Asaram, the convicts in the Bilkis Bano case, and the accused in the Hathras case, many of whom continue to remain free. The release of Kuldeep Sengar, they said, has further intensified public anger.

The women also pointed out that from the beginning of this year until now, several decisions by higher courts have been anti-women in nature. They argued that if every survivor must approach only the Supreme Court to receive justice, then serious questions arise about the role and purpose of other courts. According to the protesters, the BJP government is using the judiciary to impose patriarchal and Manuvadi ideology on society.

At the conclusion of the protest, the women asserted that daughters will no longer remain silent and that their struggle against injustice, violence, and oppression will continue.
