We Need Humanity, Not Communalism — Shared Platform Reaffirms Commitment on Sitaram Yechury’s Memorial Day


Seminar on “Communal Ideology and Its Dangers” held in Ranchi; Speakers raise concerns over media, political power, and corporate nexus

Ranchi::On the occasion of the first death anniversary of Comrade Sitaram Yechury, a seminar titled “Communal Ideology and Its Dangers” was organized today by Sajha Manch (Shared Platform) at Safdar Hashmi Auditorium. The session was introduced by Comrade Amal Pandey.
In the seminar, speakers expressed deep concern over the current social, political, and economic conditions of the country, with a particular focus on the dangers arising from communalism and the corporate-political alliance.
Renowned filmmaker Meghnad remarked, “Communalism is like a termite that is hollowing out the roots of society. Unless we build an organized public resistance against it, democratic and human values cannot be preserved.”
Journalist and social activist Faisal Anurag strongly criticized the media, stating, “Today, it is the media that has spread the most venom. It has transformed into a propaganda tool of the ruling powers, abandoning its responsibility towards public interest.”
Mr. Subrato Chatterjee criticized the central government’s policies and said, “Since the BJP came to power, a systematic campaign has been launched to spread hatred and division. This is a serious threat to both democracy and social harmony.”
Veteran journalist Sudhir Pal emphasized that communal ideology is becoming an increasing threat to society. He said, “This ideology is marginalizing vulnerable sections and continuously undermining constitutional values.”
Shubhendu Sen also shared his thoughts and called on civil society to take a more active role in resisting communal forces.
The platform’s three conveners — Prof. Harminder Bir Singh, Ibrar Ahmad, and Father Tom — highlighted the humanistic aspects of religion. They said, “The purpose of religion is to unite people, not divide them. We must not allow it to become a tool of hatred.”
Comrade Sameer Das concluded the program by stating, “Sajha Manch is a platform of citizens that stands for love, harmony, and democratic values against the politics of hate. It aims to bring people together and build an inclusive society.”
A Cultural Segment Added Strength to the Event
Comrade Prabir Peter energized the audience with a powerful people's song, while filmmaker Biju Toppo showcased two short films that beautifully highlighted human values and emotional depth.Finally, Sudhanshu Shekhar, Coordinator of Sajha Manch Jharkhand presented the structure and objective of the program and extended thanks to all participants.
