Ranchi: The Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Ranchi successfully organized its first "Tribal Conference 2025" on September 26, 2025, themed “Globalization of Tribal Heritage: Inclusive, Responsible, and Sustainable Tourism.” The conference aimed to highlight indigenous tribal culture and cuisine, provide a platform for international and domestic stakeholders to exchange ideas on responsible tourism, discuss sustainable tourism policies empowering tribal communities while preserving their cultural integrity, and promote Jharkhand as a key global tourism destination.
The event was graced by Ms. Vijaya Jadhav, Director of Tourism, Government of Jharkhand, as Chief Guest, and Swami Bhaveshanand, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Morabadi, Ranchi, as Special Guest. Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Principal of IHM Ranchi, presided over the conference. Faculty members, staff, and students of the institute were also present.
Key speakers included culinary and nutrition consultant Ms. Sangeeta Khanna, co-founder and CEO of The Open Field Jharkhand, Dr. Manisha Uraon, Mr. Sanjeev Khalkho, Head of the Department of Hotel Management at T John College, and Dr. Nishikant Kumar, Associate Professor at BIT Mesra, Ranchi.
The conference began with a ceremonial lamp lighting by the Chief Guest and Special Guest, followed by a Ganesh Vandana performed by students. A spectacular performance of Chhau dance by the State Manbhoom Chhau Art Center, Silli, Ranchi, captivated the audience.
Discussions at the conference focused on various aspects of tourism, culture, and tribal development, emphasizing the preservation of indigenous cuisines, arts, and traditions while promoting responsible and sustainable tourism practices.
This initiative by IHM Ranchi is expected to empower tribal communities economically and culturally, positioning Jharkhand as a prominent tourism destination while showcasing its rich heritage on a global platform.
