Government Targeted Over Women’s Reservation and Inflation During Press Conference

Ranchi: The Jharkhand unit of the All India Democratic Women’s Association strongly criticised the policies of the BJP-led Central Government during a press conference held on Wednesday. The organisation raised issues related to women’s reservation, inflation, rising LPG prices and labour laws.

Leaders of the organisation alleged that the Central Government has delayed the implementation of women’s reservation by citing census and delimitation as excuses. They pointed out that the Women’s Reservation Bill had already been passed in the Rajya Sabha with a huge majority in 2023. The organisation demanded immediate implementation of 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.

During the press conference, the leaders also criticised the government’s appeal asking people to avoid purchasing gold, fertilisers and foreign tours after the Assembly elections in five states. They stated that while the government is asking common citizens to make sacrifices in the name of strengthening the economy and national interest, people associated with those in power are themselves acting otherwise.

The organisation also expressed concern over the continuous rise in LPG cylinder prices. It said that the sharp increase in cooking gas prices has added financial burden on common people and the working class. The leaders further alleged that the four labour codes are aimed at benefiting corporate houses while weakening the rights of workers. They demanded immediate rollback of the increased LPG prices.

The organisation also condemned the recent statement of Bihar’s Education Minister regarding restrictions on women and girls stepping outside their homes. It said that any attempt to suppress equal rights of women is against constitutional and social values and cannot be accepted.

National Treasurer Tapasi Praharaj, State Secretary Beena Linda, State President Shivani Pal, State Treasurer Maya Layak, Ranchi District Secretary Seema Kerketta and Ranchi District President Dr. Kirti Singh Munda were present during the press conference.
