Ranchi : On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the CPI(ML) organised a protest demonstration and public meeting at Bapu Vatika in Morabadi on Thursday against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The protesters raised concerns over the deletion of names from voter lists and alleged attempts to deprive people of their right to vote.
Addressing the gathering, CPI(ML) Central Committee member Shubhendu Sen said that any attempt to deprive eligible citizens of their voting rights in the name of SIR would not be acceptable. He demanded the withdrawal of SIR, the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and restoration of voting rights of all those allegedly removed from the electoral rolls without due justification.
Sen also called for guarantees to ensure the independence and impartial functioning of the Election Commission. He demanded changes in the existing system for the appointment of Election Commissioners.
During the protest, CPI(ML) workers raised slogans including “Scrap SIR” and “Restore the voting rights of those excluded from the voter list.”
Former Central Committee member Anant Prasad Gupta, Nandita Bhattacharya, Shanti Sen, Mohan Dutta, Aiti Tirkey, Sohail Ansari, Bhim Sahu, Vijay Kumar, Sanjana Mehta, Nikhil Raj and Sufiyan were among those present along with several other CPI(ML) leaders and workers.
