Ranchi: Jharkhand’s Minister for Rural Development, Rural Works and Panchayati Raj, Mrs. Deepika Pandey Singh, inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several key development projects in Meherma and Thakurgangti blocks of Mahagama. The initiatives aim to strengthen rural infrastructure, expand irrigation and agricultural facilities, promote natural farming and enhance women’s economic empowerment.
Under the Chief Minister Gram Road Strengthening Scheme, the foundation stone was laid for the strengthening of the 1.750-km road from Dudhkol to Baghakol (PMGSY road) in Thakurgangti block. The project, being constructed at a cost of around Rs 1.63 crore, is expected to ensure safer and smoother transportation for villagers, farmers, students and the general public. It will also improve transportation of agricultural produce, market connectivity and local economic activities.
In Parsa village of Meherma block, a community-based climate-smart infrastructure project was inaugurated. Under the project, a solar-powered lift irrigation system will provide irrigation facilities to nearly 60 to 70 acres of cultivable land. Solar street lights have also been installed to improve lighting arrangements in the area.
The project is being jointly implemented by JSLPS and PRADAN. It will be operated by women belonging to self-help groups, creating new opportunities for rural women in leadership, management and livelihood generation.
A Bio-Resource Centre was also inaugurated in Dudhkol village of Thakurgangti block. The centre will promote organic farming, local knowledge and sustainable agricultural practices based on natural resources. It will provide training, technical support and income-generation opportunities to women associated with self-help groups. The initiative is also expected to encourage farmers to reduce dependence on chemical farming and adopt natural and cost-effective agricultural practices.
During the visit, a memorial dedicated to Late Haridevi Ji, the revered mother of Late Rameshwar Thakur, was unveiled at the Haridevi Referral Hospital campus in Thakurgangti block. The memorial has been described as a symbol of respect for motherhood, cultural values and social service.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Deepika Pandey Singh said the state government is committed to strengthening basic infrastructure in rural areas, connecting farmers with modern and sustainable agricultural practices and making women economically self-reliant. She added that ensuring development reaches every village of Mahagama and strengthening community participation remain the government’s top priorities.
