Jales Holds Seminar on Ambedkar Jayanti, Stresses Social Unity and Constitutional Values


Ranchi: Marking Ambedkar Jayanti and the death anniversary of noted scholar Rahul Sankrityayan, the Janwadi Lekhak Sangh (Jales) organized a significant literary seminar at Safdar Hashmi Auditorium in Ranchi. The event saw active participation from intellectuals, writers, and social activists across the city.

The programme began with floral tributes to the two iconic figures. Participants expressed satisfaction over the growing representation of Ranchi in such intellectual gatherings. The forum also paid heartfelt condolences on the demise of legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle and noted lyricist and ghazal poet Praveen Parimal, associated with the Progressive Writers’ Association.

The seminar centered on the theme “Our Constitutional Responsibility and Cultural Tradition.” It was chaired by Kumar Brijendra, while Aparajita Mishra and Dr. Alam Ara jointly conducted the proceedings.


Among the speakers were former president of the organization Dr. Vinod Kumar, Dr. Kiran, Dr. Jamshed Qamar, Veena Srivastava, Sudhir Pal, Rehana M. Ali, and Nigar Sultana.

Speakers highlighted the ideas and contributions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, emphasizing the need to understand and practice constitutional values in everyday life. They also paid tribute to Rahul Sankrityayan, recalling his rich literary and ideological legacy.




Dr. Vinod Kumar stressed the importance of social harmony and urged people to imbibe the ideals of Ambedkar and Sankrityayan to build an egalitarian society. Dr. Jamshed Qamar said that in the present times, citizens must shoulder greater responsibility and remain committed to safeguarding the Constitution, which is essential for building an inclusive society.


Veena Srivastava presented a moving free-verse poem based on Sankrityayan’s life, while young poet Rashid Akela recited verses relevant to the theme. Sudhir Pal delivered an analytical talk on Sankrityayan’s renowned work “From Volga to Ganga.”


Nigar Sultana spoke on the perspectives of Ambedkar and Sankrityayan regarding women’s rights.




In his presidential address, Kumar Brijendra remarked that the lives of Ambedkar and Sankrityayan were rooted in human values and that in today’s context, it is crucial to read, reflect upon, and internalize their teachings. He concluded with lines from poet Dr. Kunwar Bechain:



"It matters if the whole world stands with you,
But it matters more if you stand even a little.
People move forward even on one leg,
But it matters more if the other joins too."



Speakers collectively emphasized the urgent need to protect constitutional values and preserve cultural traditions. They also called upon the youth to play an active role in spreading awareness and strengthening democratic ideals.


The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Muijuddin Mirdaha, a Nagpuri poet and singer, who expressed gratitude to all guests and participants and reaffirmed the commitment to continue such initiatives.

Among those present were Firdaus Jahan, Srinivas, Islam, Vicky Minj, Nilofar Minj, Sudhir Sahu, Bipul Kachhap, Ramdhani Kharia, Aksa Elina, and others.
