Ranchi:Jharkhand’s first free special eye screening camp for patients suffering from blood disorders was organized in Ranchi by Lahu Bolega Blood Donation Organization in collaboration with the Jharkhand Thalassemia Patients Association and Anjuman Islamia Nooria Mahapanchayat. The camp was held at Kenaya Banquet Hall, Kanta Toli.
The camp, supported by ASG Eye Hospital, Ranchi, provided eye examinations, treatment, and medicines for patients with thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, aplastic anemia, persons with disabilities, blood donors, and their family members. A total of 76 people were examined, including 38 thalassemia patients, 20 persons with disabilities, three blood donors, and others. Free power spectacles will be provided to 36 beneficiaries and distributed within three days.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Uma Sen Gupta, Senior Physiotherapist and Clinical Head of Deep Shikha Sanstha, while teacher Aurangzeb Khan conducted the proceedings. Nadeem Khan of Lahu Bolega highlighted the objectives of the camp, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Sanjay Toppo of the Thalassemia Patients Association.
Yogesh C. Parkhai, Assistant Director, VRC Ranchi, termed the initiative commendable and shared information on vocational training, government schemes, and employment opportunities for persons with disabilities. Surya Mani Prasad, Director, CRC Ranchi, spoke about government welfare schemes and announced that a blood donation camp would be organized soon.
Dr. Uma Sen Gupta said the camp helped in gaining a deeper understanding of the health challenges faced by thalassemia and sickle cell patients. Organisers appealed to the government to ensure regular blood donation camps and conduct free comprehensive health check-ups for blood disorder patients.
Several social workers, medical professionals, and representatives of voluntary organizations were present on the occasion.
