Ranchi: Patients in the state will no longer need to travel outside for the treatment of serious diseases. A crucial meeting of the Advisory Committee constituted under the Human Organ Transplantation Act was held today under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary, Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Department, Mr. Ajay Kumar Singh.
During the meeting, it was unanimously decided to grant licenses to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and Raj Hospital for kidney transplantation. Both hospitals will be issued licenses soon, after which kidney transplant facilities will become available within the state.
The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary Mr. Vidyanand Sharma Pankaj, Mr. Shivnarayan Singh (Retired Principal District and Sessions Judge), Dr. Siddharth Sanyal (Director-in-Chief, Health Services), Dr. Sanjay Kumar, RIMS cardiologist Dr. Prakash, Head of the Nephrology Department Dr. Pragya Ghosh Pant, Deputy Secretary Mr. Dhruv Prasad, and NGO representatives Mrs. Sarita Pandey and Pragati Shankar.
The committee also discussed the possibilities of initiating liver, heart, and kidney transplants in other medical colleges and private institutions across the state. In this regard, a special meeting with 10 medical colleges of the state has been scheduled for January 15.
The Additional Chief Secretary directed officials to explore measures to ensure that patients covered under the Chief Minister Serious Illness Treatment Scheme receive better medical facilities within the state itself. He emphasized the need to develop a system that ensures patients face no inconvenience during treatment. Additional infrastructure is also being considered for this purpose.
The department has finalized a special package under the Chief Minister Serious Illness Treatment Scheme, through which treatment for serious diseases will be made possible within the state. The meeting stressed that, under all circumstances, patients should be provided with all essential facilities, including transplant services, within the state so that they do not have to travel elsewhere.
As per the decision, only those patients who do not fall under the Ayushman Bharat Mukhyamantri Abua Health Security Scheme will be permitted to seek treatment outside the state. Patients covered under this scheme will be ensured treatment within the state itself.
