International Deliberations at BIT Mesra on the Future of Foreign Language Education




Ranchi: A three-day international conference organized by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra concluded successfully. Held in hybrid mode, the conference focused on the theme “Technology, Ethics, and Cultural Dimensions in Foreign Language Teaching and Learning.” Scholars, researchers, and educators from India and abroad participated and engaged in in-depth discussions on the evolving role of language education in a technologically driven and culturally interconnected world.



Several academic sessions were conducted during the conference, addressing issues related to language, technology, ethics, and culture. The keynote address by Dr. Kumari Mansi on “Language as Diplomacy in International Relations: The Strategic Role of Multilingualism” was particularly noteworthy. This was followed by research paper presentation sessions chaired initially by Dr. Kumari Mansi and Dr. Shailendra Kumar Singh, and later by Dr. Jyoti Sharma and Dr. Sandeep Kumar Biswas.


As part of the academic proceedings, Prof. Avijit Banerjee delivered a lecture on AI-integrated teaching methodologies and cultural identity in multicultural classrooms. Dr. Rodina Olga presented a thematic address on “Russian


Language and Sanskrit as Custodians of Culture, Values, Ethics, and Modern Technology.” Dr. Jyoti Sharma shared her insights on ethical responsibility and cultural sensitivity in technology-enabled language education. The academic discussions concluded with the final research paper presentation session chaired by Dr. Jyoti Sharma and Dr. Abhay Ranjan.


The conference received academic support from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in New Delhi. On the final day, a panel discussion on “The Future of Foreign Language Education: Policy and Research Directions” was held, moderated by Dr. Bhaskar Karn, Head of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at BIT Mesra. Panelists Dr. Sushant Kumar Mishra, Dr. Jyoti Sharma, and Dr. Kumari Mansi shared their perspectives during the discussion.



In the valedictory session, Dr. Devendra Kumar Singh from the Department of French Studies, Banaras Hindu University, highlighted key issues such as digital transformation, ethical use of technology, multimodal literacy, and global communication. The conference formally concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Organizing Secretary, Dr.Dharmendra Kumar Chand, who expressed gratitude to all speakers, session chairs, researchers, participants, and members of the organizing committee.
