Ranchi: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of India’s first woman teacher, Savitribai Phule, the All India Progressive Women’s Association (AIPWA) launched Sisterhood Week to be observed from January 3 to January 9, 2026. Marking the beginning of the week, a discussion meeting was organized on January 3, 2026, at Mahendra Singh Bhavan, Church Road, Ranchi. The birth anniversary of the great tribal leader Jaipal Singh Munda was also jointly observed on this occasion.
Women leaders including Shanti Sen, Aiti Tirkey, Geeta Gadi, Priyanka, Kanchan Oraon, Sapna Gadi, Neelam Kewat, Lelo Oraon, Chando Tirkey, Sunita Tirkey, Sumi Oraon, Meenu Shaha, Sushma Gadi, Mewa Lakra, Sangeeta Kachhap, Saloni Kewat, Sambhavi, and Nandita Bhattacharya, along with many other women, actively participated in the discussion.
The programme was attended by CPI (ML) State Secretary Manoj Bhakt, along with Shuvendu Sen, Anant Prasad Gupta, Vijay Kumar, Pankaj, Nikhil, R. N. Singh, Mohan Dutt, and several other comrades.
Speakers expressed serious concern over
the increasing culture of rape in the country, describing it as a grave social crisis. They strongly demanded free
and equal education for women and emphasized the need to ensure dignity, safety, and respect for women of all religions.
During the discussion, speakers alleged that those in power are attempting to undermine the Constitution and impose Manusmriti, thereby snatching away women’s constitutional rights. In protest against this, AIPWA announced that awareness campaigns, public dialogues, and organizational activities will be carried out throughout Sisterhood Week.
