Labour Codes Are an Attack on Workers’ Rights – CPI (ML)

Protest Week from November 22 to 28, Demand for Withdrawal of Labour Codes

Ranchi: The Jharkhand State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation has strongly opposed the labour codes imposed by the Modi government, calling them a code meant to turn workers into corporate slaves. The CPI (ML) asserts that these four labour codes are a conspiracy to enforce the arbitrary will of corporate owners on the working class. The party claims that the objective of the newly introduced labour codes is to snatch away the historic rights won through workers’ struggles, movements and sacrifices.

State Secretary Manoj Bhakt stated that CPI (ML) has declared a Protest Week from November 22 to 28 against these labour codes. According to the party, in terms of social security and workplace safety, these codes will force workers into compromise and push them into insecurity. On one hand, these codes weaken workers’ rights; on the other hand, they hand over absolute powers to corporate houses, capital owners and bureaucracy.

The CPI (ML) further alleged that through the labour codes, a path has been paved for the open exploitation of women and other vulnerable workers, while also attacking workers’ rights to organize and protest — particularly the right to strike.

The CPI (ML) demands that the Modi government immediately withdraw these anti-people labour codes. The State Committee appeals to all labour organizations, progressive forces, popular mass organizations and justice-loving citizens of society to participate in large numbers in the protest and strengthen this struggle for workers’ rights.

The party expressed confidence that the Indian working class will compel the Modi government to withdraw the labour codes, just as the farmers’ movement forced the withdrawal of the farm laws.
