Jharkhand Needs International Flights — Chamber Submits Key Suggestions to Airport Director

Discussions held on improving facilities, adding new flight routes, and implementing CAT-III technology at Ranchi Airport

Ranchi: A delegation from the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) held a meeting today with Birsa Munda Airport Director Vinod Kumar to discuss several important issues related to airport operations and passenger facilities. The Director’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Avinash Kumar was also present during the discussion.

The Chamber delegation raised key concerns and suggestions including improvements in the parking and exit gate system, reactivation of FASTag, and ensuring smooth functioning of the 9-minute free exit system. The members also urged the installation of modern CAT-III technology to prevent flight cancellations during winter, and called for strict action against airlines that fail to commence flights despite booking slots.

Civil Aviation Sub-Committee Chairmen Dinesh Prasad Sahu and Shravan Rajgaria jointly proposed the introduction of new flight routes from Ranchi to cities such as Jaipur, Goa, Raipur, Varanasi, Bagdogra, Guwahati, Surat, Visakhapatnam, and Amritsar. They further emphasized the need to expedite runway expansion and initiate international flight operations from Ranchi. The delegation also suggested developing facilities such as additional seating areas, upgraded washrooms, and an open-air restaurant outside the terminal for passenger comfort.

Responding positively, Airport Director Vinod Kumar assured the delegation of prompt action and stated that passenger convenience remains the top priority. He also expressed willingness to work closely with the Jharkhand Chamber to ensure continuous improvement in airport infrastructure and services.

Speaking on the occasion, FJCCI General Secretary Rohit Agarwal said that as Jharkhand completes 25 years of its formation, the state is progressing rapidly on the path of development. With increasing industrial, trade, and tourism activities, there is a growing need for more domestic flights and the introduction of international services from Ranchi. “Launching international flights will strengthen Jharkhand’s presence at the national and global level and boost trade and investment opportunities,” he said.

The delegation also requested that all airport-related tenders and opportunities be shared with the Chamber so that local entrepreneurs and traders can participate and benefit from them.

The delegation included FJCCI Vice President Praveen Lohia, General Secretary Rohit Agarwal, Joint Secretary Navjot Alang, Civil Aviation Sub-Committee Chairmen Dinesh Prasad Sahu and Shravan Kumar Rajgaria, Executive Member Shailesh Agarwal, and Former President Kishore Mantri.
