Ranchi/Jamshedpur :: Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, while addressing the Fourth Bal Mela–2025 organised today at Sakchi, Jamshedpur, said that it is a matter of great joy that the Bal Mela, initiated in 2022 with the inspiration of MLA Shri Saryu Rai, has now evolved into a powerful platform for public awareness regarding children’s rights, nutrition, education and health. He said the fair, organised from National Children’s Day (14 November) to World Children’s Day (20 November), is a celebration of childhood innocence, bright hopes and limitless possibilities.
The Governor stated that this year’s theme for World Children’s Day—“Parenting with Love: Leading the World”—highlights the need for a loving, safe and sensitive environment for children. Expressing concern over issues related to children’s rights and holistic development, he said that problems such as malnutrition, low birth weight and anaemia are still serious in Jharkhand as well as several other states. He mentioned that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is taking decisive steps towards a malnutrition-free India, and Jharkhand must accelerate efforts in this direction.
He emphasized that Bal Mela is not just an event but a multidimensional social initiative that brings together parents, teachers, healthcare workers, public representatives, social organisations, the corporate sector, media and civil society. Highlighting Jharkhand’s rich tribal culture and traditions, the Governor said that the tribal belief—“a child belongs not just to the family but to the entire community”—offers the world a valuable lesson in community participation and shared responsibility. He added that during his visits to remote areas and various schools, he has witnessed children’s creativity, sportsmanship, natural understanding of music and dance, and deep sensitivity towards nature.
Underscoring the importance of girls’ education, the Governor said that an educated daughter is the foundation of an educated family and an empowered society. He further stated that children are not just the future but a priority for today. Therefore, everyone must join hands to create an environment where every child in the state can grow healthy, educated, safe and happy.
