Questions on Healthcare System: Pregnant Woman Carried on Cot, Patient Dies in Latehar Due to Lack of Treatment

RANCHI::Two distressing pictures of Jharkhand’s crumbling healthcare system have emerged. On one hand, tribal-dominated areas still lack roads and hospitals, while on the other, patients are losing their lives due to the unavailability of ambulances. These situations are nothing short of a slap on the face of the system and a cruel joke on the poor.

The first incident is from Jhewra village in Deori block of Giridih district. Here, Talco Marandi, wife of Ganesh Soren, suddenly experienced severe labor pain. With no road and no hospital in the village, her family had no choice but to place her on a cot and carry her toward the hospital. Villagers, both men and women, walked along to help ensure that delivery did not occur on the way, endangering the mother and child. After much struggle, she was finally taken to the Tisri health center, where treatment began, bringing relief to her family.

Locals say that due to the absence of roads, patients are often carried to hospitals on cots, and in several cases, they have died before reaching medical facilities.

The second incident is from Latehar, where a patient died due to lack of treatment facilities.

These incidents have sparked serious questions about the state’s healthcare system. Villagers argue that despite a government led by tribal representatives, tribal areas still remain deprived of basic facilities. Meanwhile, the opposition BJP has also attacked the government, alleging that Jharkhand’s healthcare infrastructure has collapsed, and that poor people are losing their lives due to the lack of ambulances and essential services.
