Ranchi::Deputy Commissioner Manish Kumar inaugurates the program, says— child safety and rehabilitation are top priorities .A five-day vertical training program on child protection for multi-stakeholders working under the Mission Vatsalya Scheme was inaugurated on Monday at the Suchna Bhawan Auditorium, under the aegis of Savitri Bai Phule Institute of Women and Child Development, Regional Center, Ranchi.
The program was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Manish Kumar, who lit the ceremonial lamp. In his address, he described Mission Vatsalya as a significant government initiative aimed at ensuring the safety, welfare, and holistic development of children. He stated that such training programs not only raise awareness but also help in capacity-building of ground-level personnel.
Family-based care must be prioritized
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need
 to prioritize family-based, non-institutional care under the scheme. He said that institutional care should be considered only as a last resort in adverse circumstances. He urged participants to formulate work plans keeping in mind the best interest of the child, including aspects like safety, mental health, rehabilitation, and overall development.
Focus on making training more practical
Mr. Kumar also requested the organizers to incorporate activities such as videos, audio presentations, and role-plays to make the training more practical and effective. He stressed that unless a hands-on approach is adopted, the full benefit of such training cannot be realized.
Detailed sessions on JJ Act and POCSO Act
On the second day of the training, participants were given detailed information on the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, POCSO Act, 2012, child care, safety, rehabilitation, and legal provisions related to child abuse. The sessions also covered the role of police and related ethical and legal considerations in the context of child protection.
Representatives from various departments participated.The training program saw participation from representatives of the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Child Welfare Police Unit, CWC members, DCPU staff, and officials from various departments. The objective of the program is to bring together stakeholders working under Mission Vatsalya on a common platform to develop a shared strategy for child welfare
