2-ton shipment from Deoghar and Gumla now available at Dubai's prestigious Lulu Mall; initiative boosts women farmers' income and global market access
Ranchi: Jharkhand's Amrapali mangoes have achieved another milestone by entering the international market, with the first consignment of two tonnes reaching Dubai. Produced by women-led farmer producer organizations in Deoghar and Gumla districts, the mangoes are now on sale at the prestigious Lulu Mall in Dubai, where they are attracting customers for their superior quality and sweetness.
The consignment was produced under the Birsa Harit Gram Yojana by the Mohanpur Aajeevika Mahila Kisan Producer Society of Deoghar and Gumla Raidih Agri Producer Company Limited and MVM Baghima Palkot Producer Company Limited of Gumla. The shipment was facilitated by the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS).
This is not the first time Jharkhand's Amrapali mangoes have reached overseas markets. Earlier consignments from different districts of the state had been exported to London and Italy, reflecting the growing global demand for the state's premium fruit.
JSLPS has been consistently strengthening self-help groups (SHGs) and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) by promoting value addition, quality-based processing and modern marketing systems. These initiatives have not only enhanced the income of women farmers but have also helped establish Jharkhand's agricultural products in international markets.
Under the Palash brand, the state had set up special mango sales outlets across Jharkhand to market mangoes produced by SHGs and FPOs. Encouraged by the success in domestic markets, the initiative has now expanded to global destinations, creating new opportunities for women farmers and strengthening the state's export potential.
Expressing happiness over the achievement, Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Deepika Pandey Singh said the credit for the global recognition of Amrapali mangoes belongs to the hardworking women of the state.
She said that orchards developed under the Birsa Harit Gram Yojana have emerged as a strong source of livelihood and self-reliance for rural women. "The dedication of our women farmers, their commitment to quality, and the effective management of JSLPS have enabled Jharkhand's Amrapali mangoes to reach international markets such as Dubai, London and Italy. Our goal is to take products made by rural women to more countries across the world and ensure a steady increase in their income by connecting them with global markets," she said.
The minister added that the combined efforts of the Birsa Harit Gram Yojana and JSLPS have created a successful horticulture-based livelihood model in Jharkhand, enabling women farmers to receive better prices for their produce while ensuring direct access to export-oriented markets.
