Ranchi:: Communist Party of India (Marxist) state secretariat has expressed solidarity with the ongoing peaceful agitation of Sher Shahabadi youths, who have been protesting since May 4 in front of the Barharwa Circle Office in Sahibganj district over the non-issuance of caste certificates.
The party stated that a large population of Sher Shahabadis resides in Bihar, West Bengal, and Jharkhand, and that caste certificates are being issued to the community in Bihar and West Bengal. According to CPI(M) , Sher Shahabadis in Jharkhand were also receiving caste certificates till 2011, following a prolonged struggle led by the party.
The party recalled that after marathon discussions between a CPI(M ) delegation and the then Chief Secretary of Jharkhand Ram Sewak Sharma, along with the then Principal Secretary of the Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department, Satpathy, orders were issued for the restoration of caste certificates for Sher Shahabadis.
However, CPI(M) alleged that due to the lack of understanding among local officials, the issuance of caste certificates was once again stopped, forcing members of the community to launch an agitation.
The party further informed that it has sought time from the Chief Secretary and the Principal Secretary of the Personnel Department for discussions on resolving the issue, but no appointment has been granted so far.
CPI(M)State Secretary Prakash Viplav said that the state government should intervene immediately and ensure a permanent solution to the problems faced by the Sher Shahabadi community in obtaining caste certificates. He added that the prolonged delay has created difficulties for youths in accessing education, employment opportunities, and government welfare schemes.
