Please Show Mercy and Support Us”: Families of Blood Disorder Patients Appeal to Government

Ranchi: Families of patients suffering from thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, aplastic anemia, and hemophilia have appealed to Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari to take concrete decisions for their welfare during the Health Department’s review meeting scheduled for June 2, 2026.

The appeal was made during a meeting organized by the Jharkhand Thalassemia Patients Association and Lahoo Bolega Blood Donation Organization at the Blood Bank premises of Ranchi Sadar Hospital on Sunday. The meeting was chaired by Vikram Kumar Das, a parent of a thalassemia patient and an Indian Railways employee, while Sujata Kumari conducted the proceedings. Vimla Kachhap delivered the vote of thanks.

Participants expressed concern that several announcements made by the Health Minister during the Jharkhand Assembly session on December 9, 2025, are yet to be implemented. These included framing a comprehensive policy for blood disorder patients, establishing a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) facility in Ranchi, providing financial assistance of ₹15 lakh for BMT, ensuring free medicines, blood, treatment, diagnostic tests, prevention and screening services, formulating a blood donation and blood management policy, and installing blood component separator machines in 21 districts.

According to the families, nearly 60 patients are currently waiting for Bone Marrow Transplants, while many continue to face difficulties in obtaining essential medicines and adequate blood supplies.

*Three Key Demands*

The meeting placed three major demands before the state government:

* Immediate implementation of all announced policies and welfare measures for blood disorder patients.

* Monthly financial assistance of ₹10,000 for patients suffering from thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, aplastic anemia, and hemophilia.

* A statewide blood donation campaign to address the acute shortage of blood, as many patients require two to three units of blood every month.

The participants also discussed issues related to disability certificates, UDID cards, disability pensions, blood disorder patient identity cards, Indian Railways travel passes, submission of a memorandum to the Ranchi Deputy Commissioner, organizing a recreational outing for patients and their families, and holding a Blood Donor Felicitation Ceremony on World Blood Donor Day.

Among those present were Nadeem Khan, Deepak Kachhap, Shanti Devi, Puniya Oraon, Sumitra Devi, Dileshwar Mahto, Lakhendra Munda, Neelu Toppo, Farihaya Bilkis, Sania Parveen, Munni Devi, Poonam Devi, Gloria Toppo, Munita Kumari, Sukhamani Munda, Sunita Devi, and several others.
