Demand for Humanitarian Support from Railways for Children Suffering from Blood Disorders

Ranchi :: A joint delegation of “Lahoo Bolega” Blood Donation Organization, Ranchi, and Jharkhand Thalassemia Patients Association met Ranchi Railway Division DRM Mr. K.K. Singh at his office in Hatia and submitted a five-point memorandum regarding the welfare of patients suffering from serious blood disorders.

The delegation demanded that patients suffering from Thalassemia, Sickle Cell Anemia, Aplastic Anemia, and Hemophilia should be provided permanent concessional railway passes by Indian Railways. They stated that despite being covered under the permanent disability category, such patients are still deprived of railway concession facilities.

The memorandum urged the Railway authorities to issue proper guidelines on humanitarian, practical, and legal grounds under disability laws so that eligible patients can easily obtain permanent concessional railway passes.

The delegation also requested that both online and offline systems for issuing railway concession passes should continue to remain operational to ensure that patients and their families do not face unnecessary difficulties.

Apart from this, the delegation appealed to the Railway Division to organize blood donation camps in Hatia and Ranchi divisions for the welfare of children suffering from blood disorders. They also demanded support for activities such as painting, theatre, and talent development programs, along with assistance in treatment and medicines for the affected children.

DRM Mr. K.K. Singh listened to the delegation seriously and assured that necessary directions would be issued after discussions with the concerned disability and railway pass officials. He also said that some issues may require consultation at the Railway Board level.
The delegation included Nadeem Khan, Sanjay Toppo, Sujata Kumari, Vimla Kachhap, Sangeeta Kumari, Shanti Devi, Sumitra Devi, and Keshmati Devi.
