Ranchi:: Madhavpur Jharkhand’s Minister for Rural Development, Rural Works and Panchayati Raj, Mrs. Deepika Pandey Singh, participated in a tree plantation–based sustainable livelihood programme organised by RPG Group and IMPCA at Madhavpur village under Boram Panchayat in East Singhbhum district.
On this occasion, the Minister said that while plantation is usually limited to the idea of “one person, one tree,” the women of Jharkhand have created history by planting more than 25 million saplings. Through the plantation of fruit-bearing trees, mango orchards and other useful plants, not only has greenery increased, but rural livelihoods have also been strengthened.
She stated that plantation helps reduce carbon emissions and is a commendable initiative towards gaining the benefits of carbon credit. Protecting water, forests and land while becoming self-reliant has become the identity of a stronger Jharkhand.
The Minister highlighted that Jharkhand’s women have planted trees not only for themselves but also on behalf of their family members, achieving plantation numbers equal to the state’s total population—an extraordinary
accomplishment. Women have wisely selected timber-useful trees, mango, bamboo, amla, and other fruit-bearing and medicinal plants, which are directly benefiting society.
She further noted that women, especially in the Jamshedpur region, are developing mango orchards and even exporting the produce abroad. Mangoes once limited to domestic consumption have now become a strong source of income, with the fruits of women’s hard work reaching international markets.
Mrs. Singh emphasised the need to expand this campaign further, as water, forests and land are the true identity of Jharkhand. She added that while the world is facing an environmental crisis, Jharkhand has managed to preserve its natural resources to a large extent.
She also pointed out that large companies are now required to provide carbon credits in exchange for mining or industrial activities. Trees planted in villages will not only provide fruits but also generate additional income through carbon credits, directly benefiting women’s accounts.
The Minister reiterated the government’s goal of ensuring that every child attends school, every woman remains healthy, and every family earns a dignified livelihood. Under the Maiyaan Samman Yojana, ₹2500 is being transferred directly every month into women’s bank accounts to support education, health, food and daily needs.
She urged women not to be misled by rumours, but to stay united and move forward on the path of empowerment.
Calling upon self-help groups to adopt cooperative models, she said that government requirements such as school uniforms, bags and stationery can also be produced through SHGs, creating more employment opportunities and increasing income.
