Ranchi :: In the Harlhi–Godelpura region under Barkagaon block of Hazaribagh district, resistance against the proposed Adani coal mining project has intensified. Residents of more than two dozen villages allege that fake Gram Sabha meetings are being conducted to facilitate the unlawful acquisition of forest and agricultural land. They claim that the PESA Act, Forest Rights Act–2006, Fifth Schedule provisions, and land acquisition laws are being blatantly violated to hand over hundreds of hectares of fertile land, forests, and water sources to corporate interests.
For several years, thousands of Adivasi–Moolvasi families have been united in their struggle to protect their farmlands, livelihoods, and cultural identity. Villagers say that all promises regarding jobs, compensation, and rehabilitation have proved to be false. Instead, they have faced fabricated cases, lathi-charges, and even firing incidents. Despite this repression, the people remain firm in their resolve—
“We will not give up our land, forests, and water at any cost.”
Meanwhile, CPI (ML) State Secretary Comrade Manoj Bhakt strongly criticized the situation, stating:
“Adani has become the new East India Company of independent India. The Modi-led central government is executing a criminal conspiracy to hand over the country’s natural resources to monopoly capital. We demand that the Hemant government immediately cancel this project and respect the people’s mandate. Our party will lead the Barkagaon struggle till the very end. Adani will not be allowed to set foot on the soil of Jharkhand.”
The villagers' message is loud and clear—
“Our land is our identity. Stop corporate loot!”
