🩺 Successful Organization of Regional Conference on Medical Management at ICU/CCU
Ranchi:: The Department of Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, Government of Jharkhand, successfully organized the “Regional Conference on Medical Management at ICU/CCU of Jharkhand” at BNR Chanakya Auditorium, Ranchi.The objective of the conference was to strengthen the management and treatment system for critically ill patients at ICU and CCU levels across the state.
The program was chaired by Dr. Neha Arora, Special Secretary, Department of Health, Government of Jharkhand.
Prominent participants included Mr. Shashi Prakash Jha, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM) Jharkhand; Mr. Vidyanand Sharma Pankaj, Additional Secretary; Mr. Siddharth Sanyal, DIC; Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Bhattacharya from RIMS, Ranchi; and Dr. Saurabh Saigal from AIIMS, Bhopal (online).
All Civil Surgeons from across the state and representatives of private hospitals also attended. Over 250 participants took part in this conference.
Concrete Initiative to Strengthen Critical Care Services in Jharkhand
Special Secretary Dr. Neha Arora stated that the objective of the conference is to make ICU/CCU services in all districts effective and accountable.
She said —“District hospitals will no longer remain mere referral centers, but will be capable of stabilizing and providing primary treatment to critical patients. The government and private sector must work together to build a system where every patient can receive timely life-saving care.”
“Establishing Functional ICU Units in Every District Hospital Is Our Commitment” — Shashi Prakash Jha
Mr. Shashi Prakash Jha, Mission Director, NHM Jharkhand, said that the department aims to establish strong ICU and critical care units in every district hospital.
He emphasized —“There is no shortage of resources; what we need is better management and efficiency of utilization. Our goal is to ensure that no patient loses their life due to lack of facilities or ventilator support.”
Mr. Vidyanand Sharma Pankaj, Additional Secretary, said in his welcome address that, as per the Supreme Court’s directions, the department is preparing clear and standardized medical management guidelines for hospitals.
In this context, a draft Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been developed, and suggestions are being invited from experts.
Experts’ Suggestions: Expanding the Critical Care Network in the State
Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Bhattacharya (RIMS, Ranchi) said that a draft SOP has been prepared to strengthen the state’s critical care network. He added that Jharkhand could become a model state in the field of critical care within the next two to three years.
Mr. Siddharth Sanyal, Director-in-Chief, Health Services, emphasized the need for a uniform ICU Admission & Discharge Protocol, so that patient care standards remain consistent across all hospitals.

Dr. Saurabh Saigal (AIIMS, Bhopal) – Emphasized the importance of Tele-ICU networking and 24×7 expert guidance systems.
Dr. Bikram Gupta (BHU, Varanasi) – Suggested strengthening manpower and infrastructure in critical care units.
Dr. Sanjeev Kumar (IGIMS, Patna) – Stressed the adoption of integrated trauma and critical care protocols.
Dr. S. K. Singh – Discussed a time-bound action plan for improving ICU management at the state level.

In the concluding session, Mr. Siddharth Sanyal, DIC, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all speakers, experts, and participants.He said “This conference marks a significant step toward strengthening ICU/CCU management in Jharkhand. Based on expert recommendations, the state’s critical care services will gain a new and effective direction.”
