Massive Forest Department Raid in Chanho: Illegal Logging and Encroachment Exposed

Ranchi:In a major action against forest crimes, a team from the Ranchi Forest Division, led by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Shrikant Verma, conducted a surprise raid in the Chara area of Chanho block following reports of illegal tree felling and encroachment on forest land.

During the operation, those involved in the illegal activity fled the spot, abandoning a Bolero vehicle at the scene. Upon inspection, the Forest Department team recovered several Aadhaar cards and personal documents, which are now being examined to identify the individuals involved.

Speaking to the media, DFO Shrikant Verma confirmed that initial findings point to organized illegal logging and unauthorized occupation of forest land. “The matter is serious. A detailed investigation will be carried out soon, and a survey team will conduct an on-site inspection of the affected area,” he stated.

According to officials, local villagers had earlier raised the issue of illegal cutting and land encroachment during a Gram Sabha meeting, urging the Forest Department to take prompt action. Based on their complaint, the raid was organized.

The department has assured that all those found guilty will face strict legal action under the Forest Conservation and Forest Act provisions. Monitoring has also been intensified in other sensitive forest zones of the Ranchi region to curb similar illegal activities.
