Jharkhand Tribals Celebrate Sohrai Jatra Festival in Jobya


Ranchi: The Sohrai Jatra festival, a symbol of the identity and unity of the tribal community, was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fanfare in Jobya (Damodar) village, Jharkhand. The event was organized by the Sarna Committee of Jobya (Damodar) village under the Tori, Chandwa, and Kamta Panchayats, a day after Diwali on Wednesday.


The festival saw participation from Khodha groups of Jobya Damodar, Ambadohar, and Hisri villages. People, dressed in traditional attire, danced to the beats of drums and nagadas, showcasing vibrant tribal traditions. Prior to the festivities, Sarna Committee members including Pahan Sule Urav, Pujer Bale Urav, and Dharm Aguwa Chandra Dev Urav conducted rituals and prayers according to traditional customs.


As evening fell, large crowds from nearby areas gathered to join the celebration. Attendees danced joyfully to the music, adding color and energy to the festival. The inauguration of the Jatra fair was carried out by the chief guest, Panchayat Committee member Ayub Khan, along with special guest Mukhiya Naresh Bhagat and other dignitaries. Guests were honored with badges by the Sarna Committee.


Chief guest Ayub Khan emphasized that the Jatra festival strengthens social unity and helps preserve tribal traditions. Social activist Sanjeev Kumar highlighted that the festival is an important part of their cultural heritage and encouraged youth participation to ensure its continuity.


The event was smoothly managed by dance group coordinators Jataru Urav, Bandhan Urav, and others, with volunteers contributing actively to the organization. All participating Khodha groups were felicitated by the Sarna Committee.


The Sohrai Jatra festival beautifully showcased the cultural diversity, traditions, and collective spirit of the tribal community in Jharkhand.
