Ranchi/Kerala: Panic spread at Pramadom Stadium in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district on Wednesday when the helipad partially caved in moments after the helicopter carrying President Droupadi Murmu landed. Fortunately, the President was not inside the helicopter at the time, preventing what could have been a serious accident.
According to sources, President Murmu was on a visit to Sabarimala Temple in Kerala for a special prayer. As part of her itinerary, the presidential helicopter landed at the Pramadom Stadium, where a temporary helipad had been set up. Shortly after the landing, a portion of the tarmac beneath the helicopter sank.
Security personnel, firefighters, and police officers stationed at the venue immediately rushed into action. In a coordinated effort, the team physically pushed the helicopter out of the sunken area, ensuring the aircraft was safely repositioned. The entire operation was carried out with utmost caution, following strict security protocols.
Preliminary reports suggest that the incident occurred due to the tarmac’s inability to bear the helicopter’s weight, combined with weak surface conditions at the temporary helipad. Fortunately, there were no injuries or damage reported in the incident.
Following the incident, officials from the local administration, district police, and the Special Protection Group (SPG) reviewed the security arrangements at the site. The Directorate
General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also
sought a detailed report from the state government regarding the technical standards used in constructing the temporary helipad.
Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and corrective measures will be taken to prevent such occurrences in the future.
President Murmu’s visit to Kerala was primarily religious and cultural in nature. She offered prayers at the Sabarimala Temple, marking an important spiritual moment during her stay in the state.
