Comrade Santosh Ghosh: A Symbol of Discipline and Organization, Given a Tearful Farewell




Ranchi(Maithon ):: Comrade Santosh Kumar Ghosh, member of the CPI (M) State Secretariat and Secretary of the party’s Dhanbad district committee, passed away today at 12:15 p.m. at Maithon Hospital. He was 70. Known for his remarkable organizational ability, discipline, and commitment, Comrade Ghosh held a respected place in the party as well as among workers’ movements.
After retiring from the Indian Army, Ghosh joined the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) in Maithon as a security officer. It was during this period that he became actively involved in the trade union movement and later served as an office-bearer of the DVC Workers’ Union. His active role in defending workers’ rights and raising their voices made him a popular figure among the workforce. Eventually, he embraced the membership of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and dedicated his life to strengthening its organization.
In Maithon and Dhanbad, Ghosh came to be known as a committed and fearless communist leader. His discipline and organizational skill served as a model for party cadres. He worked tirelessly to expand and consolidate the party in Dhanbad district, serving for the past four years as the district secretary. For seven years, he was a member of the CPI (M) state committee, and earlier this year, he was elected to the state secretariat.
Colleagues and comrades remembered him as a warm, enthusiastic, and lively personality. The CPI (M) has described his death as an irreparable loss to the movement. The State Secretariat expressed its deepest condolences to his wife, sons Anshuman and Kaushik Ghosh, his daughter, and other family members. Condolences were also conveyed to the Dhanbad district committee.
Following news of his demise, red flags were flown at half-mast across all CPI (M) offices in Jharkhand. His funeral procession drew a large turnout of DVC workers, party members, and supporters. State Secretary Prakash Viplav, Secretariat members Sameer Das and Surjeet Sinha, along with leaders including Amal Azad, Virendra Kumar, Ramchandra Thakur, Sunder Lal Mahto, Ramkrishna Paswan, Shiv Balak Paswan, Maya Layak, Sumna Lahiri, Gopikant Bakshi, Bhagirath Sharma, Ganesh Dhar, R.K. Gorai, Pradeep Biswas, and Prabhulal were among those who paid their respects.
Comrade Santosh Ghosh’s life was dedicated to struggle, organization, and service to the working class. He was a steadfast voice for workers and the marginalized, and his absence will be deeply felt in the party and beyond. Party workers and comrades bid him farewell with tearful eyes and resolved to carry forward his legacy of struggle.
