After Another Tragic Death, MLA Promises Help and Pushes for Lasting Wildlife Solution

Ranchi (Khunti)September 3: The Torpa Assembly constituency continues to reel under the terror of wild elephants. Just a week ago, the tragic deaths of a mother and son and the injury of a daughter in Bakaspur village had left the area in shock. Before people could recover from that trauma, another elephant attack occurred on Tuesday night in Bongtel village under the Rania block. This time, a 32-year-old man named Krishna Singh was trampled to death. In a separate incident, Pitroos Gudiya from Derang village was seriously injured.
These incidents deeply saddened JMM MLA Sudeep Gudiya. On Wednesday, his face reflected visible grief and distress. Speaking to Dehat News, he said, “The safety of our people is our top priority. This is not just the time for compensation and relief—there is a dire need to find a permanent solution to this recurring issue.”
“It Was the Toughest Night of My Life”
The MLA shared that Tuesday night was one of the most difficult nights he has experienced. While he was making arrangements to send the injured Pitroos from Derang to a referral hospital via ambulance, the tragic news of Krishna Singh’s death from Bongtel came in. “I couldn’t sleep all night. I felt restless the entire day. This pain has shaken me to the core,” he said.

Met the Grieving Family – Eyes Filled with Tears
Early in the morning, the MLA reached Bongtel and met with the bereaved family to offer his condolences. With the help of the forest department, he ensured immediate compensation of ₹50,000 in cash and assured the family that the remaining government formalities would be completed soon. He also provided food supplies to the grieving family from his own resources.
Seeing the family’s condition brought tears to the MLA’s eyes. The deceased, Krishna Singh, is survived by his wife Parvati Devi, who is suffering from tuberculosis, and their three young daughters—Khushi (7 years), Khushboo (5 years), and a 6-month-old infant. The family has lost its sole breadwinner. Parvati Devi is now left wondering how she will care for and support her children.
MLA Sudeep Gudiya assured the family, saying, “I will personally take full responsibility for Parvati Devi’s treatment and the education of all three daughters. This family will not be left alone.”
