Lahoo Bolega Initiative: Bone Marrow Matching Test Completed for 197 Patients

Ranchi:Under the joint initiative of Lahoo Bolega Blood Donation Organization, Ranchi and the Jharkhand Thalassemia Patients Association, a three-day free bone marrow transplant matching test (HLA screening) and awareness camp for Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anemia patients was organized for the second time at the Ranchi Press Club. The camp was conducted with the support of Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi and the Shonit Foundation.



The camp was held continuously from 6 February to 8 February 2026, from morning to evening, and concluded on Sunday. Patients and their family members from all districts of Jharkhand, as well as from Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha, participated in the screening.



On the final day, 57 Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anemia patients and their relatives underwent the HLA test. Over the three days, a total of 197 patients and family members were tested. The free screening was conducted for Thalassemia patients aged 0 to 12 years, and for Sickle Cell Anemia patients aged 0 to 20 years.




Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, will provide the test reports within approximately two months. Patients whose bone marrow matches will have their transplant-related documents forwarded through the hospital to the Government of India, CCL, the Jharkhand Government, and other charitable organizations for financial assistance. After receiving support, the bone marrow transplant procedure will be carried out. The entire process takes nearly five months.



The chief guest of the camp was renowned bone marrow specialist and Director of Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, and a Government of India bone marrow panelist, Dr. Gaurav Kharia.



The three-day program was chaired by blood donor and founder of Lahoo Bolega Organization and Jharkhand Thalassemia Patients Association, Nadeem Khan.


The camp was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Kharia, with the Apollo team comprising Ravi Ranjan, Yashi Kumari, and Sanjay Sharma. Support was also extended by the Shonit Foundation Chairman A.K. Jha, along with Asha Shrestha, Ashraf Raza, Shahbaz Akhtar, Suman Kumar Saha, Syed Asad, Syed Shahnawaz, Shivam Kumar, and other volunteers who played a key role in making the camp successful.


Several members of the Thalassemia Patients Association and Lahoo Bolega Organization also contributed significantly to the successful completion of the event.
