Ranchi(Simdega ):On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Indian Hockey, grand celebrations were held across 570 districts of the country, including the Major Dhyan Chand National Hockey Stadium in New Delhi, filled with enthusiasm and national pride.
As part of these celebrations, Simdega — known as the nursery of Indian hockey — organized exhibition matches in both men’s and women’s categories at the Astroturf Hockey Stadium under the banner of Hockey Simdega.
Simdega has the unique distinction of producing three Olympians:
Late Michael Kindo (1972 Munich Olympics – Bronze Medal),
Mr. Sylvanus Dung Dung (1980 Moscow Olympics – Gold Medal), and
Ms. Salima Tete (2020 Tokyo Olympics – 4th position).
In addition, the district has given three captains to the Indian Women’s Hockey Team — Sumrai Tete, Asunta Lakra, and Salima Tete — along with a host of international players including Sangita Kumari, Beauty Dung Dung, Deepika Soren, Kanti Ba, Edline Kerketta, Masira Surin, Late Justin Kerketta, Bimal Lakra, Birendra Lakra, James Kerketta, Madihdas Ba, Anjasul Bilung, Ropni Kumari, Mahima Tete, Sushma Kumari, Alka Dung Dung, and Alpha Kerketta.
In the women’s category, STC Lachragarh defeated STC Simdega by 2–1, while in the men’s category, Little Tiger Club won a nail-biting match against STC Simdega by 3–2.
The matches were inaugurated by chief guests Mr. Manoj Kumar Sinha, District Head (DD News), and Mrs. Mukti Kullu, noted social worker and mother of several hockey players, along with officials of Hockey Simdega. The chief guests later presented trophies and mementos to the winning teams.
Another women’s match is scheduled at 4:00 PM between Simdega College XI and Nehru Team XI.
The event was successfully organized under the leadership of Hockey Simdega President Mr. Manoj Konbegi, with active contributions from Pankrasius Toppo, Kamleshwar Manjhi, Ved Prakash, Tarini Kumari, Kunul Bhengra, Rohit Besra, Talin Tigga, Amrita Minz, Neha Kumari, and Reena Kullu.
