Purulia, Sept 14 – Purulia Municipal Chairman Nabendu Mahali on Sunday took the lead in a special registration drive for transport workers under the Social Security Scheme, organized by the Labour Department at Purulia Bus Stand.
Inspired by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s vision, Mahali said the initiative reflects the government’s resolve to extend welfare benefits to those who keep the state’s transport sector moving. He emphasized that transport workers form the backbone of public connectivity, and ensuring their social protection is a matter of priority.
Mahali personally interacted with workers at the camp and urged them to enroll in large numbers to secure financial assistance, insurance, and other welfare benefits under the scheme.
The initiative drew positive response from transport workers, who expressed gratitude for the outreach and hoped it would strengthen their economic and social security.
