Ranchi:: Former minister of Jharkhand
, member of the state government’s
Coordination Committee, and Working President of the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee, Bandhu Tirkey, met the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandrabhushan Kumar, and demanded that the displaced tribals from Jharkhand settled there be included in the Scheduled Tribes list.
Mr. Tirkey stated that tribals from Jharkhand were settled in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during different periods and have made significant contributions to the social and economic development of the region. Despite this, it is extremely unfortunate that they have not yet been included in the officially recognized Scheduled Tribes list.
He said that even after so many years of independence, denying these communities their constitutional rights is unjust. As this community is socially, educationally, and economically backward, it is absolutely essential that they be granted Scheduled Tribe status.
Bandhu Tirkey further informed that during the discussion, the Chief Secretary adopted a positive approach and assured him that necessary and concrete steps would be taken in this direction. He expressed hope that effective action would be initiated soon and these tribals would receive their rightful entitlements.
