No One Can Label Their Bottle as ‘ORS’ Anymore!”

Ranchi(New Delhi) ::From now on, any food or beverage product will require approval from the World Health Organization (WHO) before labeling it as ‘ORS’ (Oral Rehydration Solution). This important directive has been issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

Behind this decision lies a long struggle led by Hyderabad-based pediatrician Dr. Shivaranjani Santosh, who fought tirelessly for eight years. Using scientific evidence and persistent advocacy, she convinced FSSAI and other authorities that misleading marketing and incorrect labeling can seriously affect children’s health.

Dr. Shivaranjani explained that her goal was not just to establish regulations, but also to educate the public, especially parents, about which ORS is genuine and which is not. Many sweetened and flavored drinks are being marketed as ORS, which prevents children from receiving the correct treatment during dehydration and poses serious health risks.

After this historic victory, Dr. Shivaranjani became emotional. She said, “This is not just my victory, but a significant protection for children and their families. Now, no one can label a product as ORS without proper authorization.”

With this step, FSSAI aims to curb the sale of fake and misleading ORS products in the market, ensuring that children receive safe and effective treatment.

Experts say this measure is a milestone for both health awareness and market transparency.
