Ranchi :: In the name of eviction, bulldozers rolled over slum settlements on HEC land in Ranchi, the state capital. More than 100 homes, where families had been living for the past 30–40 years, were demolished, leaving hundreds of people homeless overnight.
The Ranchi City Committee of CPI (ML) strongly condemned the demolition drive. The party stated that Ranchi, being the capital, attracts people from different districts in search of livelihood. Most of them belong to the unorganized sector—domestic workers, construction laborers, sanitation workers—on whose shoulders the daily life of the city depends. Demolishing their shelters without providing alternative arrangements, the party said, is absolutely unjustified.
CPI-ML demanded that the government immediately arrange housing for all displaced families and restore their basic facilities—roads, electricity, water, and ration supplies—that were already available in these settlements. The party warned that if the government fails to take responsibility, the agitation will intensify.
Meanwhile, CPI-ML also launched an attack on the BJP. The party alleged that Babulal Marandi is pushing forward BJP’s divisive agenda. It said that even though bulldozers razed homes in BJP’s own assembly constituency, the party remained silent. Later, BJP leaders tried to divert attention by raising the issue of “Bangladeshi infiltrators.” CPI-ML asserted that BJP owes answers to those poor citizens who voted them to power but are now left to struggle for survival on the streets.
